Did you know this about the RHI scheme?

Having spent a couple of days at the Wood Heat Association Conference in Bristol recently, I thought I would share a few interesting snippets about the RHI scheme.

  • So far, the RHI scheme participants have received around £250m in subsidy.
  • 84% of boilers are installed where there isn’t a gas supply.
  • There is 2GW of installed capacity - this is enough heat for 30,000 medium sized office buildings.
  • 50% of consumers have had problems with at least one fuel delivery.
  • Ofgem have a team of 10 dedicated people who investigate suspected fraud within the scheme  - so far they have reportedly scrutinised payments worth £20m for instances such as:
    • Non-existent boilers
    • Applications before commissioning
    • Second-hand equipment
    • Differences between application and audit
    • Incorrect fuel
  • Fraud is reported to Action Fraud or the police and convictions have been obtained.
