Call for input regarding struggles and challenges getting gas and electricity contracts from suppliers

Ofgem, who regulate the gas and electricity market, are asking for evidence from customers about recent market failures by suppliers and challenges faced by customers in securing contracts for energy over the last few months, and whether there is any evidence that unfair prices or security deposits being levied in order to secure ongoing supply of energy. This is in response to very difficult trading conditions seen, specifically over late summer/autumn 2022 where the volatility of prices led many suppliers to limit offers or in extreme cases fail to provide any contracts at all.

NFU Energy and NFU will be making a response to the consultation by the deadline on 31st March, however the response will be significantly stronger with direct evidence and support by energy customers who have experienced difficulties and are prepared to share these with us. We will keep all responses anonymous, by default, unless you state otherwise.

We have made the questions easy to respond to by inputting them into Survey Monkey – see this LINK. Please respond by Monday 20th March to give us time to form the official response by the deadline.
