Get £5,000 grant for reducing energy consumption in your home

Almost without any fanfare at all, the Green Homes Grant scheme was launched today. As the name suggests it is a domestic oriented scheme and will pay two thirds of the cost of improvements up to a maximum of a £5,000 grant for home improvements that reduce energy consumption. These improvements are wide ranging, from Ground Source Heat Pumps to insulation to heat recovery systems. Crucially for many, the scheme can interact with the domestic RHI, allowing the cost of the grant awarded to be deducted from future RHI payments. This interaction should help in keeping initial capital outlay low.

To participate you must get at least one quote from a Green Homes Grant registered installer, full information can be found here. Please note this scheme is only available in England.

Whilst the impact of this scheme is likely to be limited for NFU Energy clients,  as commercial enterprise are excluded, it is well worth looking into for your home. Initial suggestions are that the scheme will very quickly become oversubscribed (there is a limit of 600,000 vouchers available) and improvements must be fitted by the 31 March 2021, so don’t delay if this is of interest to you.
